I had decided that my veggie garden was producing way more than we could us. So I decided to take some to the food bank. So I headed down to the garden and something didn't seem right. As I got closer I saw the gate was ajar. Looking into my once beautiful lush garden I saw nothing but destruction. Six raised beds totally chewed up , pulled up and tossed about. Outside the fence stood nine innocent looking (my foot) elk. One still chewing on some lettuce, another one with bean plants sticking out of his antlers and a carrot hanging from his mouth. Oh to have had my camera. I had worked so hard on that garden and now there was nothing left but some cucumbers and zucchini. I should have been mad but somehow I just sat there watching them watching me. It was a "Mexican standoff". Then I started laughing and just smiling at the whole situation. They really must have been hungry! So glad I could help them out. But I do wish they had left a few beans.

Elk? Where did they come from? I can't even imagine seeing even one in our yard, and then to think they were devouring your veggies. I was shocked just to see a lone deer chomping down on the shrubs as I entered our development, but 9 elk, WOW! Make our bunnies and raccoons look pretty insignificant...
Hi Sharon, I felt so bad reading you post about all your wonderful veggies destroyed then in the next few sentences you had me cracking up :) Thank you for sharing with us and for the sweet comment you left on my blog. I was wondering if gold leafing is hard to do? I really do love that antiqued gold look. I am trying to have my daughet teach me how to become a follower on others blogs, I tried, did something wrong and then gave up lol. I also wanted to tell you that I think you make some beautiful creations, if you were near by I would beg you to teach me to do silk ebroidery. You do beautiful work :) As far as my store goes, I don't have anything in it yet, but I will, I have alot of things who's time it is now to "pass along" for someone else to enjoy. Oh Sharon you have made a heartbreaking scenario hilarious. Beans in the antlers. Oh my. Seems you have the right attitude...you just donated to a different kind of food-bank that day. At least you still get the squash. And the memory...what a story, I wish I could have seen everyone's faces (yours and the elk's).
I guess you'll be installing a more substantial latch next year?
