A needle Case

I have not fallen off the face of the earth. I have had the urge to re-organize my painting, etc studio. This entails going through 23 drawers, file cabinets, work table, etc. I empty each drawer and start all over. At this rate I should be done next Dec. just in time to start all over. LOL!!!! Somebody HELP ME. What was I thinking. I am such a pack rat. But I am determined. Anyway I did break away (literally) to make some needle cases this weekend. Plus a decoupage project was started. But I digress....

NEEDLE CASE

The needle case was made of silk dupioni and felt for the cover.
It is folded in half in photo.

The color is not that wild, I do believe my flash went off. Sorry. I lined the silk with a lite pellon interfacing and sewed around the edges as silk dupioni likes to fray. I then added some lace and a cut out felt heart.

I then did my embellishing with silk ribbon embroidery, a charm and crazy quilt stitching. Charm was added at the end. On the inside fabric on the right side I added the felt layers for the needles. Fold your fabric in half right sides together, then open and place felt on the lower half .I then layed the batting ( I used Cotton) the inside fabric (which I used a coordinating cotton print), and the cover fabric (silk dupioni) right sides together. Plus I added 2 pcs. of two sided satin ribbon for the ties. Take your time on this process, making sure you are laying them right. I call this thinking backwards. Imagine turning right side out, are the layers in the correct order. Doing this saves a lot of frustration later. ( I know ;-0 ) Remember the ribbon is all tucked inside with just the ends sticking out. Be careful to try and keep the ribbon in the center. Then sew around the edge, leaving a opening for turning. Clip corners and turn out. Press. Sew opening closed. Now you have a sweet needle case, just the right size.

This case is for a friend, so her name is embroidered on it. Now back to re-organizing. :-( !! Have a great day!!!!

Sharon...hope you find this...in answer to your question about the Min Wax paste wax - yes, the brown is the right one! Sorry! I probably confused everyone by saying "antique" brown. It's the wax used on dark furniture. That's what it says on my tin of it.

Diane :-) Hope this helps!

Beatiful needle case Sharon!! I love your embroidery touches!! I made some last year useing Fulled sweaters and then added felt pages for needles! I put needle case on the tag and you would not believe how many people had to ask me what they were used for!!!!! I was shocked. We are all doing our bit to save these needle arts from being totally lost arts!!!!
I hope that I am not the one resposible for getting you all jazzed up to tackle your space. I am making slow progress- wish taht I could just barrel through it....... Slog on Dear Friend - IT will be worth it!!!!!
Hugs!
Elizabeth

Hi Sharon, thank you. I thought maybe I'd made a terrible fauxpas with the name, but You understand.
Yes try the beeewax. I had to order the Damar resin from R&F, but maybe there is someplace closer. You have to be carefull though when heating the wax and resin, it can catch fire if you get it too hot. I'm at work right now otherwise I would look up what the temp is. But yu can Google it, thats how I found out. hey good luck, its really fun. Let me know if I can be of any help. "beth"

Really sweet heart case for your friend! Hope your organizing goes well! I actually love doing it every so often. When I finish (well, as finished as it's going to be for a while) I get newly inspired with more creative ideas than ever. I guess it's getting that clear (sort of anyway) space to work in! Enjoy!

Hi Sharon,
I wanted to ask you how you got the banner for your blog. Is it one of your own picures or crazy quilts? It is so pretty.

This is beautiful! Such delicate work. Thank you for your comments on my blog, about the chocolate - you have no idea how hard it was to finish drawing the whole pieces before I took a bite out of several! :D Marva
