A Day at the Island

My son had a special day planned out for me on Mothers Day. Each year we get together and do some fun thing. Just being together is the best. This year we ventured to Whidbey Island (one of my favorites). The ferry ride is fairly short and I just love the smell of salt water.
We traveled up the island to Greenbank as they have a wonderful restaurant and a wonderful artsy farmers market going on on Sundays. There is also a great wine shop and tasting room. They have a great loganberry dessert wine they make. I digress... When we arrived there was a momma goose with her goslings at the pond. How fitting for Mothers day. They were so cute. I
think she was teaching them how to navigate into the pond. They looked like little fuzz balls plopping around.
As we were entering the restaurant down this garden path look what I found .... we were surrounded my momma's of all kinds. She had her nest right above the walkway and was not to happy with all the people passing below... I felt sorry for her, but she has a nice safe place out of the elements.
We had a wonderful lunch, with homemade breads, chowders and desserts. Not a day to count calories. Spent the afternoon browsing the art and buying some wonderful jelly and sauces. As we left I see mother goose has succeeded in getting her children on the water.
We went down to Langley (another favorite) and did major damage at the shops there. Came home with lace, ribbons and yarn. DS bought me a lovely sign for my garden that said "Scatter Joy". I will treasure it. We then headed to the beach.....oh oh no! We were to late the tide had come in, so no looking for sea glass and little wonders of the sea this trip. We stopped and visited with a dear friend and then headed for the ferry. We had an hour wait as there were so many heading back. Once on the mainland we stopped for Chinese food (YUM) and then headed home. A wonderful day and more memories to keep. Well off to the garden to plant some plants that we also bought...... Like I said serious damage......
