The Butterfly Project

The Butterfly Project mandate is   to remember the 1,500,000 innocent children who perished as a result of the Holocaust  by collecting 1.5 million handmade butterflies

In Spring 2013, these butterflies will then become a break-taking exhibition to serve as a memory of this event.

Can you imagine?  1.5 million children translated into  1.5 million butterflies....?  If  you wondering why a butterfly,  the project is based on this poem -

I Never Saw Another Butterfly
    The last, the very last,
So richly, brightly, dazzlingly yellow
Perhaps if the sun’s tears would sing
against a white stone....

Such, such a yellow
Is carried lightly ’way up high.
It went away I’m sure
because it wished
to kiss the world good-bye.

For seven weeks I’ve lived in here
Penned up inside this ghetto.
But I have found what I love here.
The dandelions call to me
And the white chestnut branches in the court.

Only I never saw another butterfly.
That butterfly was the last one.
Butterflies don’t live in here, in the ghetto.

My son was born on Sept.29th many years later so the date
really tugged at my heart.

Lets make sure every child has a beautiful butterfly
representing them in the Spring of 2013.

this to light.
I am off to mail my butterfly.

All I can say is wow Sharon - I am very, as you may have guest heart connected to this project and so you won't be surprised that your precious butterfly brought tears to my eyes and continues to as I write.
We have so many troubles in our world and our media seems to make it a point of daily reminding us of them. What I find missing, is the 'news' of kind souls like you and others who share their love and gifts and by doing so, prove to us, well, like Louis Armstrong sung - ...and I think to myself...What a Wonderful World.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Sharon~ When I first saw your post I thought to myself what a gorgeous butterfly... I wonder what she will use it for? Of course after reading your post I now know why. It was sure nothing that I had expected. I will be following the link provided and following your example as well of what a compassionate and giving individual you must be.
