The Storm That Wasn't So Pretty.

It started on the 15th with a lovely snowfall.
It snowed the 16th, 17th and 18th.

The morning of the 18th DH started
plowing. This is looking down our
driveway. The snow was so heavy
on the branches. I tried to gently
knock what I could off  the
Japanese Maples. But that night we had a
ice storm....
My car is under all this. This was one of my
favorite trees right outside my studio.
what can I say...
The ice was so heavy...
The tree just shattered...
The big alpines, cedars and pine frozen in place.
I could hear trees breaking. It sounded like gunshots. The road to our home
had so many trees down it took hours and hours
to clear. Trees still hanging low today.
People say what a neat photo...I think the
tree was crying. I know I was...
All my Japanese maples are broken along
with several other trees.
After 100 plus hours of no power we left with the cockateil and dog.
We now have power but they say another storm is do tonight.
I hope not. We have run out of firewood. There is so much cleanup
to do but we will wait until the snow and ice all melt.
There are still people out of power and I sure feel for them.
The crews from Rocky Mtn Electric, Montana we thank for coming to our rescue.
Thanks to the 100's of linemen who came to Washington's rescue.
I hope to be back tomorrow. I'm not sure I will ever feel warm again.

Oh Sharon, this brought back vivid memories of our Ice storm over a decade ago. The trees that were lost...it still makes me weep. The sound is horrific. I thought it sounded like a massacre. Our forests will not be the same in our lifetime. Such storms truly are lifechangers.

Now take care of yourself. Don't become too tired with all the work. Keep looking up and try not to be discouraged. Your neighbors and community will pull together and you'll be more tightly knit than you could've imagined. Keeping you tucked in my prayers. Keep us informed.

Oh my Sharon Dear I have been hoping you are safe and not having to deal with the storms. I am so sorry this has happened to you and your home and trees and car. I completely understand what this is like as we have lived through such a nightmare in past winters. All I can say is...my prayers are with you and thank goodness nothing worse happened to you or your loved ones. Warm Hugs...

I'm so sorry Sharon, I know what havoc winter can cause, so empathize with what you're going through right now. Will the trees come back in the Spring?

Hi Sharon, Your pictures brought back a lot of memories. I can remember when we had our ice storm a few years ago. Laying under lots of covers without electricity wondering if the tree limbs was going to hit the house. Our yard look like a war zone and one of my blue spruces look like somebody had prune one who side and did a horrible job. We had raised them from babies. Our kids were going to make us go stay with them because they had the electricity and the heat. I know what you are going through. So far we have been having very mild weather, but I really feel for you and all the rest of the people out there. Take care and be careful. Your Missouri Friend.

I'm so glad to hear from you, Sharon, as I knew about the storm and worried about my WA friends. You've had a terrible time of it. We didn't get the terrible ice, but have had high winds and the place is a mess. We are also out of firewood, so I hope that we keep our power now or else we'll be moving into a hotel. What a winter! Stay safe and as warm as you can get!

Oh, Sharon. I can hear the trees crying from here. Sometimes Mother Nature can be so mean. Take care of you and yours and try to stay warm. Lots of hugs to you.

I can see you have been hit very hard by the storm. We heard about it on the news. A very long time to be without power. Am hoping the clean up will go smoothly.

Oh no. My heart breaks with you, Sharon. How I wish I could send you some firewood. For now, the best I can do is send you some warm, loving thoughts.
Please take care,

Ice storms can be so destructive and yet so beautiful. The light sparkling on the ice looks like diamonds but underneath it all it's a disaster. I grew up in Illinois and I've gone through my share of ice storms...not fun! I hope things are better for you soon. My thoughts are with you.

Oh wow Sharon....what an ordeal you have been through. I have never thought of the ice and snow being so heavy that it breaks the trees. I will look at snowy photos with a different perspective now. I hope that things start looking up and you can move your car without too much damage. Take care.

Oh dear Sharon! Thinking of you! I remember having a garden, and going out to free the plants and trees from heavy snow! But of course, it wasn't as cold as it is where you are. I'm impressed by thosae icicles... I remember crying from fatigue though, and cold in my hands... oh, I think I don't like the 'white stuff' anymore! :((( Hope it melts soon!
Hugs and love to you!
xoxo
