For those of you who have followed my blog this
furry little creature named Chester has been
with us at Wildflower for some time now.
I have treated him with great kindness such as
gourmet meals , a warm little box with a soft
furry warm blanket when it got cold,etc. He in
return has been a little gentleman until now.
He has decided my violas are his. He digs them up
and heaven only knows where he takes them. This
morning I caught him in the act as he was skipping
away down the garden path. He dropped his treasures,
so I replanted them. A little while later he reappeared,
and disguise or not I would recognize him anywhere...
Any advice on this subject would be so very welcome!
HELP...

LOL! I think you've made Chester way too comfortable! He now owns the place -- flowers included. :D :D
Give it to him, he won't give up then move the next bunch before planting and get some deterrent (hair from local barber shop will work for short time; cayenne and oil sprayed in area works tell it rains and gardening store should have non-toxic suggestions too.
I agree - pepper sprayed on the plants might make him less apt to want to take them away - and it won't hurt birds - for some reason they seem to have a higher tolerance for hot peppers.
I'd still recognize the little thief, even with his disguise. LOL

But aaaawwww he is too cute.
I don't have advice but I do have a chuckle!
Maybe he's landscaping? They are destructive little guys and seem to especially love tulips. Come to think of it one of my violas disappeared also. Mystery solved? The good thing is they don't like daffodils, so I plant them around the other stuff....
It's amazing how we all love the cheeky little 4 legged friends we have in our gardens, until they start stealing. Hopefully he doesn't take them all. Sorry I don't have an answer,only for you to have a chat with your local garden supplier and to enjoy your garden.
Oh Dear...Chester the Viola Molester! I am smiling with your clever post. However I do not have any helpful advice. In fact, if you get any I will be very happy to heed it as we have the same issues here with little furry critters who love flowers. Our heavy saddened hearts after this past week really needed this post of lightness. Thank you dear...

He's so cute though! We don't have squirrels where we are, for about a quarter mile radius. It's weird. Whenever we see one, it's excitement!

He is really cute but now he is going too far with your hospitality!! I agree with the cayenne.. I buy it at the bulk foods by the pound!! they wonder!!
but it works. My pest are the rabbits... they love to eat my tulip stems and of course they nip off the flower to get to the stem!!
I stopped planting vegies as they always got more peas and zucchini than I did...sigh..

Dear Sharon - makes me think Chester might be a bit out of control since you have spoiled him so (LOL). He is far too cute though to not keep him. Sorry about your violets though.
